Cheerful! And you've avoided having to deal with the sort of creepiness that insects often bring out in us! Bristles where there shouldn't be; slick or slimy parts where it should be "skin;" too many legs, flimsy wings. All that.
I'm 36 and I just saw my first firefly last summer. I was at a gift show in Atlanta, selling bugs of all things, and a very kind man brought one in for me to see. I think it was dead, but its hind end was still alight. Yeah, really great. Wish I could have seen them in all their glory while I was there. Alas, none in Utah, so I'll just have to wait. I wish this was a childhood memory... Great illo. You captured all of what I imagined it would be like... hmmmm...
Fireflies delight me as much now as they did when I was a chid! This is such a fun, happy illustration that captures the feeling children have when they see these wonderful little creatures.
Growing up, we always called these "lightning bugs." We used to trap as many as we could in a jar, and sleep out under a tent in the backyard. What a fun illo...and, thanks for the memories!
