Dummy Dummy Dummy

I've decided to dummy up my recent manuscript - a daunting task if truth be told. I have to draw tons of animals, all grouped together doing very unusual things. It's exciting though to see it come to life.

My first thought was to just make a loose dummy, but don't I want to make the best impression I can, and put that book in the best light possible? So it will be fairly tight. Here's attempt number one at pages 4-5. I will probably redo it, but am happy that the feeling I was trying to get is at least there.

It looks wonderful Paige!

Since you do watercolor I am not sure how tight it needs to be. . .but for me it would be perfect.

You are totally right about giving the publisher the very best you can.

Well don't kill yourself with too much finish detail.

I think I read somewhere that sometimes its okay to just do the first 6 pages or so with good drawing... and then you can sort of scrawl out the rest, just to get the story idea across.

It IS hard to know how far to go with detail, isn't it?
Seems to me I sometimes give TOO much detail in a dummy. If it looks too "done" I think they sometimes think they can't have any editorial input, which of course they can!

Thanks for the feedback! I guess everyone does dummies differently, which makes it hard to figure out what's the ultimate 'right' way to go. John, thanks for the idea of doing some of it tight and the rest loose. I'm going with that.
