truly cracked... unless if icarus sr. came and made those wings for him... then he would be cracked if he flies towards the sun...

but the illustration is beautiful.... :)

I like the loose watercolors with your airy pen line. Very innocent.

Dang it, Paige! I am so envious of your talent!! But seriously, I LOVE the ink lines. I think this is my favorite choice of your line work thus far. I am so shaky with pen and ink, that's why I use pencil instead.

This is another one to add to my favorites! :o)

Thanks everyone! 8-)

Hi Phyllis, my hands are shaky too which is why I've been mostly sticking to pencil line these days - this one is actually colored pencil as well. I varied the line thickness like it would be if it were a dip pen just to experiment, and used a couple pencil colors--burnt sienna and a black. It really made it sing nicely when I dropped the watercolors over it. I think I'll give this technique a few more tries.

Oh, and me too Storyqueen! I was first trying to make it silly for the theme, then realized that this elephant is a lot of us - taking a big leap of faith in such a difficult business :)

I agree with Phyllis. I love this style of linework. He's so adorable! Love your blog header, too. Your talent is amazing and is your work ethic.

Are you using regular wax based color pencil?

Great elephant! I love its miniature wings, how its ears are lying flat (unusual position for elephant ears) and the sky is wonderful as well.

Eeek! I fear for him! :) A beautiful illo!

Hi Laura - thank you! :-) yes they're prismacolors, although I've heard of a differente type of colored pencil that's very soft and almost 'paints' onto the paper the way oiled pastel would. Can't think of the name though. That would be great for outlines!

Thanks very much everyone for stopping by and commenting!
