Staring Contest 2

I digitally added eyes to this one. I like both renditions for different reasons.

Oh dear... it's the eternal 'dotty eye' vs. 'round eye' connundrum!

Yes, I too have revisited this unanswerable question for years on end. I think it boils down to the dotty eye makes the figure seem more 'designed'... but the round eye with pupil makes the figures more expressive.

Also... it about drives an illustrator NUTS in the process. A guaranteed one-way ticket to the looney bin. I once redid an entire book from round eyes to dotty eyes... (in photoshop) and after days of indecision, decided to go with the round eyes.

It's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

lol!

Yes exactly, there are two 'decisions' that have driven me mad - dot eyes or regular, and tight or loose style. (Aaauuuuugggh!!!) And p.s. I have done similar with an early reader - kept switching the sketches back and forth - tight/loose dot eyes/regular eyes. I guess I'm in very good company!

Well now I have to say I like the round eyes more than the dotty eyes in this comparison. But I've noticed lots of illsutrators will intermix both kinds of eyes in a single page... so I guess it's just optional.

And by the way, that wedding picture is very well done!
