Illustration Friday Theme: Surprise

Dennis West thought of this poem for my illustration.  I've decided to post it--thanks Dennis!

XIV - Where Go the Boats?

Dark brown is the river,
Golden is the sand.
It flows along for ever,
With trees on either hand.

Green leaves a-floating,
Castles of the foam,
Boats of mine a-boating--
Where will all come home?

On goes the river
And out past the mill,
Away down the valley,
Away down the hill.

Away down the river,
A hundred miles or more,
Other little children
Shall bring my boats ashore.

-Robert Louis Stevenson

It's lovely! So funny and sweet...
I like the idea and the little details - the bands on the boat... so cute! :-)
You're so talanted! :-)

This is great, Paige! It reminds me of my favorite entry in Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses. Whenever I'm presented with kids sending any kind of boat down a stream or gutter, I think of this. I remember doing this when I was a kid. Of course, mine only had imaginary pirates in them.

This is wonderful. The flower reminds me of the little prince's flower.
